inform | Rideau Park School Lottery and Overflow Update

Hello, Rideau!

This message is being sent to all current Rideau Park School families.

I wanted to share some important information about Rideau Park School that will be important for you to know as we look ahead to the 2024-25 school year. Over the past and current school years, we have welcomed many new students into our Rideau Park School community. While we are happy to welcome new students into our school, it has caused us to reach student capacity. Therefore, an overflow was implemented in June 2023 to ensure that the learning environment is not adversely affected. Please look at this notice on our website for more information about the overflow.

Today was the registration deadline to be included in the lottery (noon on Feb. 13, 2024), and I am happy to share we will be able to welcome all new students who have registered for the 2024-25 school year (by the above deadline). This includes all students who are currently attending a CBE elementary school and designated to attend Rideau Park for Grade 7 next school year. The notice I linked above mentions that “the lottery process will be followed for kindergarten to Grade 9 students for the 2024-25 school year and beyond,” so I felt it was important to share that we will not be running a lottery tomorrow.

Although we don't need to conduct a lottery tomorrow based on current registration numbers, we expect to see our enrolment numbers continue to grow. As a result, the overflow plan that was implemented in June 2023 will remain in place for the foreseeable future. Any new kindergarten to Grade 9 students registering for Rideau Park School that cannot be accommodated at the school will be overflowed to either Chinook Park or Woodman School, depending on their grade, and added to the call-back list. Student information will be transferred to their new designated overflow school.

While no action is needed from you, I wanted to pass on this information to all Rideau Park School families and incoming families to understand that student enrolment remains capped at the school. CBE is continuing to work on solutions for the capacity issues at Rideau Park School and will continue to provide updates to impacted students and parents/guardians.
