Preparation for Tryouts
Please ensure that your child comes prepared with appropriate athletic attire, water, and a signed copy of the Annual Authorization for Athletic Tryout (you can check off all the sports you would want for your child to try out for the whole year- this way you will avoid signing multiple forms for multiple sports)
We encourage all interested students to participate, regardless of their experience level. It’s a great way for them to challenge themselves and be part of our school spirit!
Of note: effective Sept 1, the Alberta Fairness and Safety in Sport Act comes into effect. All female athletes wishing to compete/tryout for female sports teams are required to also return the following form alongside the annual authorization form above. Here are some more links from the Government of Alberta on this new legislation.

As professionals at the interscholastic level, we put the student first and the athlete second.
So the athletic experience becomes a vehicle to promote learning.
The educational mission of interscholastic athletics is that it is an extracurricular activity that supports the educational mission and objectives of the school.
At the interscholastic level, learning is far more important than winning. Successful school coaches create the conditions necessary for students to:
- Master new skills
- Enjoy competition with others
- Experience enhanced self-esteem
Athletics provides an opportunity for each student to challenge him/herself every day and to learn life lessons that will optimize his/her overall development.
To this end and through thoughtful reflection – the athletic program at Rideau Park School will be comprised of:
A Girls’ and Boys’ Junior and Senior Level Team for volleyball and basketball to compete in interschool athletics.
All additional athletics, Cross Country, Soccer, Badminton and Track and Field, will be as established for teams in interschool league. Grade 6 students are invited to participate in Cross Country, Soccer and Track & Field.
When do sports teams start?
Sports teams will begin early in September with Cross Country, Soccer and Basketball. Listen to the announcements and check the school calendar to ensure you know when the team practices and try outs are scheduled.
