Report Cards
Check our calendar page for exact dates when report cards are issued.
Assessment and Reporting is an ongoing process of demonstrating learning and responding to feedback. A growth mindset opens our students to the possibilities for achievement and the opportunities to learn from mistakes and continue on a pattern of positive growth.
Feedback in PowerSchool, Student Led conferences and formal report cards comprise assessment and reporting at Rideau Park School. Students and Parents may access feedback to student learning through the MYCBE/PowerSchool Account. Student conferences are scheduled approximately halfway through each term and Formal Report Cards will be made available online in the MYCBE/PowerSchool Accounts at the end of January and end of June.
Although the above information represents significant opportunities for teachers and parents to communicate, we strongly encourage on-going dialogue throughout the year. Students are encouraged to communicate with their teachers. Please communicate with your child's teacher should there be questions.
Mark Appeals
Final course marks will be made available to students at the end of the year. Students and parents have an opportunity to dispute the final course mark on Appeals Day. A student and parent may appeal a school-based mark by directly discussing their concern with the teacher. Should a resolution not occur following these discussions, the student and parent may then address their concerns in writing to the principal. The decision of the principal regarding school-based marks is deemed to be the final decision of the Calgary Board of Education (CBE Administrative Regulation 3018).
Addressing Educational Concerns
If parents have a concern with respect to the academic learning or the processes involved in learning for their child(ren) they should:
First:
- Contact the classroom teacher to set up an appointment.
- Meet with the classroom teacher to discuss the concern.
- In consultation set up a plan of action and a date to review the success of said plan.
If parents feel they need to access support from administration they should:
- Contact the administration and make an appointment once they have communicated with the teacher.
- Meet with the administrator and teacher (if appropriate) to discuss their concern.
- Set up a plan of action and a date to review said plan.
Assessment and Reporting at the CBE
We know it is important for parents/guardians to understand how their children are doing in school. Research shows that students are more successful with active parent/guardian involvement.
The report card is one component in communicating student learning. In addition to the report card, schools communicate with parents/guardians about student progress on an ongoing basis in a variety of ways.
Assessment happens every day, in every classroom, throughout the school year. Assessing a student’s progress is one of the most important ways we support the continued learning of our students.
We have developed some resources related to assessment and report cards, and to help you learn more about your child's learning. As more resources are developed, you will find them here.
Digital report cards are available through MyCBE. For help with accessing student assessment and reporting information, please refer to the information in the MyCBE Technical Support for Students & Parents Support website.
