Registration for 2025 – 26 School Year 

Registration for 2025-26 begins on Monday, January 13.  If your child may be interested in alternative programs or will be transferring to a different school, registration forms / transfer requests can be submitted starting Monday. 

Athletics | Volleyball Try-outs 

Volleyball try-outs will resume the week of January 13 for all teams.  The website calendar has been updated to reflect this change in scheduling.  Students who are trying out for volleyball should be committed to attending all practices and playing in all games until the end of the season.  If a scheduling conflict does arise, it’s the student’s responsibility to speak with their coach.   

Reminder | Kindergarten AM Drop-off

A reminder for parents that Kindergarten start time is 9:05 am and there must be a hand-to-hand drop off for Kindergarten students. Exceptions are made when the weather is inclement or extremely cold. Additionally, you can contact Ms McDonald in advance to arrange any one-time exceptions

Information | French Immersion Program & Open House 

A teacher and a student representative from Elboya School will be visiting Grade 6 students to talk about the French Immersion program during the afternoon of January 15.  Elboya School will also host an open house on February 6 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm.

Information | High School Programs 

Applications are being accepted for the Performing and Visual Arts (PVA) program at Central Memorial High School. Applications are due by January 15, 2025.

High School programs.   

Student Tour: students will be touring Western Canada on January 27 for either the morning or afternoon session.  Once we confirm with the high school the time of day, more information about the student tour will be shared with students and parents. 

High School Transfer Form: the transfer form for high school programs opens on February 1. This is an online form. Transfers are considered for specific programs, address change, unique settings and IB Program.

Western Canada High School is hosting an Open House on January 27, 4:00 - 6:00 pm.

Volunteer Opportunity | MRU Conservatory Band Trip, Jan 23 

Band students will be going on an off-campus trip to the Mount Royal Conservatory on January 23.  If you are available to volunteer to for this trip, please contact Mr Doherty at dedoherty@cbe.ab.ca

Fun Lunch, Healthy Hunger | on behalf of RPS’ Parent Society 

The Rideau Park Parent Association is once again coordinating bi-monthly ‘Fun Lunch’ with Healthy Hunger.  This is also a great fundraiser for the school with a portion of sales being returned to the school.  Participation is completely voluntary with a variety of healthy lunch vendors to choose from. 

Parent Volunteer opportunity: for each fun lunch Thursday, parent volunteers are needed to help sort orders and deliver to classrooms.  Time commitment is about an hour, with the start time at 11:00 am.  If available to help on one or some Thursdays, you must complete the annual volunteer registration, which includes a valid Police Information Clearance. 

Volunteers are needed for: 

• January 9 – 1 volunteer 
• January 23 – 2 volunteers 
• February 6 – 1 volunteer

Student Drop-off & Pick-up  

For students being driven directly to school, the drop-off zones are labeled on this map on the school’s website.  There is no car-accessible front door drop-off availability at our school entrance, the alley or the staff parking lot.  The same applies for student pick-up at dismissal time (ie front of school, alley & staff parking lot is not available for pick-up).
