Staffing Update | Welcome to Rideau Park

We are delighted to welcome to the Rideau Park School staff:

  • Gemma Rae – Ms Rae has returned to Rideau from a parenting leave to teach Grade 6 & 8 English Language Arts & Social Studies, and Fashion Studies 9
  • Florence Janzen – Ms Janzen assists us for mornings in the office in the role of secretary.
  • Maria Hernandez – Ms Hernandez will be joining the afternoon facilities staff in the role of cleaner. 

Student Presentation | Const Tad Milmine

On Friday, February 23, Const Tad Milmine will be speaking with Grades 6 to 9 students about bullying prevention.  Const Tad’s biography can be found on the website of his charitable organization Bullying Ends Here.  

The school thanks the Rideau Park Parents Association for organizing this presentation for our students.  

Important Reminder | Students Leaving During the School Day

If a student needs to leave the building during the school day for an appointment or due to an illness, the student must be signed out from the office by a parent, or an adult (ie. over age 18) specified for ‘Student Pick up’ in PowerSchool.

This requirement applies to all students from Kindergarten to Grade 9. 

Parents can review who is listed for student pick up for their child by logging into MyCBE. To add or remove a person from this list, please contact the main office at RideauPark@cbe.ab.ca

2024 – 25 | High School Registration Information

Western Canada High School:  Students should use the Grade 10 Registration Form and Checklist   to plan and choose their Grade 10 courses.  Full descriptions of the WCHS course offerings are linked HERE

  1. WCHS requests that the paper copy of this form is signed and returned to the Mr Yackulic or Ms Cochrane by March 13. 
  2. Starting the week of February 26, students should log into PowerSchool to enter their course choices.
  3. Online course requests should be entered in PowerSchool by March 13.

Expression of Interest Forms: Expression of Interest forms for IB must be completed and submitted as per instructions on the form by March 15. Grade 10 IB Course selection form is linked HERE. 

High School Transfers: For students thinking about transferring to a school not their designated high school, such as an alternative program, the high school transfer process will open on February 1, 2024. Online transfer requests will be accepted until March 15, 2024. Program or Sequence of Courses Transfer Request

Unique Setting Schools: Transfer Requests for Unique Setting Schools are submitted after March 15. Students wanting to attend one of the Unique Setting Schools, please contact Ms Cochrane to assist with transfer requirements. 

Change of Address for High School: For students who will need to transfer high schools based on a change of address, the Change of Address for High School form should be submitted to the new designated high school, with accompanying proof of the new address. 

Parent Volunteer Opportunities | Fun Lunch, Field Trips

Campus Calgary Open Minds: Library School: There are 3 CCOM off campus trips upcoming where parent volunteers will be needed to assist with supervision. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are available to volunteer.

·       Grade 1 / 2, Feb 26 – Mar 15 

Grade 8 & 9 Ski Trips, March 4 & 5: Information for parents and permission forms will be sent home with students in February.  Parent volunteers will be needed. Please contact Mr Yackulic if you are available to volunteer. 

Fun Lunch – we require some assistance with sorting the Fun Lunch orders from the Healthy Hunger vendors every second Thursday, starting 11:05 am for approximately 45 minutes. We are asking for assistance in sorting the individual orders and ensuring they get to the students.

Additionally, for upcoming dates, volunteers are needed for: 

  • April 18 – 2 volunteers needed
  • May 2 – 1 volunteer needed
  • June 13 – 1 volunteer needed

Important Reminder | Student Pick-up and Drop-off

We ask your cooperation to follow procedures with picking up and dropping off students for school.  

Due to increasing safety concerns of neighborhood residents and our student community, policing of city bylaws relating to parking and traffic restrictions will be more strictly enforced. 

There is no car-accessible front door drop-off or parking availability directly at our school entrance nor from the t-intersection at the front of the school. Continue Reading
