Spring Break

Happy Spring Break to Rideau students and their families.  A reminder that Friday, March 21 is a non-instructional day for students while teachers hold parent-teacher conferences throughout the day.  Spring Break is scheduled for next week (March 24 – 28), with classes resuming on Monday, March 31.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 20 – afternoon & evening and Friday, March 21 during the morning and afternoon.  The conference booking system has now closed.  If you would still like to schedule an appointment to speak with a teacher or teachers, call the main office at 403-777-7480.

Surveys

The Assurance survey closes tomorrow (March 21).

Each year Alberta Education conducts the Alberta Education Assurance Survey with students in Grades 4, 7 and 12 and their parents.  Parents will have received their access code via CBE messaging.

After Spring Break, students in Grades 5, 6, 8 & 9 will be participating in the CBE Student Survey.

Spring Plants & Planters Fundraiser

This spring, we are pleased to be once again partnering with Growing Smiles & DeVry Greenhouse for the Spring Plants & Planters Fundraiser which opened on March 17 and will be open to place orders until May 7.  The delivery date is May 22, just in time for gardening season.

The greenhouse-quality plants that can be ordered this year include: hanging flower & strawberry baskets, patio planters, and 10-flats of geraniums (red, pink & white), petunias (purple, pink & white), marigolds, veggies, and herbs.  Organic soil (30L bag) and fertilizer are also available.  All proceeds will go toward school programs & classrooms.

Unclaimed Fun Lunch Orders

Each Fun Lunch Day, there are a large number of Fun Lunch orders that are not picked up after every order date. Most of these are never picked up and are tossed out at the start of the next week.

Parents/guardians can cancel Fun Lunch orders via the Health Hunger website up to 5 days in advance of an order date.

The office will be using the following process until June, and will work with the RPPA parent fun lunch coordinator to decide if it will continue for next school year:

  • For the Fun Lunches left behind after spring break, please call the office to arrange for the fun lunch to be picked up (ie parent, sibling or alternate pick up).
  • Unclaimed lunches (ie not picked up or student absences) will be offered to a student in need of lunch on order dates.

Inter-school Athletics: Volleyball Season Ends

We are so proud of our teams, coaches, and volunteers who have contributed to a terrific volleyball season.  Season results are below:

The third game both teams traded point for point until their opponents pulled ahead for the win.  The Senior Girls placed Second place.  Congratulations to Coach Wegg and the team for great serves and great play throughout the season.
  • The Senior Boys team played in the Consolation final on Tuesday. Our Senior Boys placed third overall in the season.  Congratulations to Coach Ball and the team for displaying great play and citizenship on the court throughout the season.
  • The Junior Girls placed Fifth in their division.  Congratulations to Coach Redwood and the players for displaying remarkable sportsmanship throughout the season.

Student Pick-up before PM Dismissal

If your child(ren) requires pick-up before the close of the school day, we kindly request they be picked up before 3:15 pm.

When teachers are finishing up the day with students, it can be very disruptive to closing procedures and clean-up for the day, such as the art project clean-up, science lab materials put away, securing Chromebooks, and other routines that happen during the last 15 – 20 minutes of instructional time.  Our front office is also finishing up tasks for the day, often time-sensitive tasks.  We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain optimal learning experiences and an efficient front office.
