New Website | Calendar Subscriptions 

Calendar subscriptions allow users to easily subscribe to a curated list of events on their devices. Parents and students can now subscribe to the school calendar with the option to choose all categories or a specific one, giving them access to events anytime. Using a calendar subscription offers several benefits for both parents and schools:

  • A subscription keeps your calendar automatically updated for parents, eliminating the need for manual entries or updates.

  • Any changes or additions to events are instantly reflected in your calendar, ensuring your parents have the latest information.

  • Subscriptions save you and your parents time by streamlining the process of adding and managing events, reducing the manual effort involved.

  • It helps maintain consistency across multiple devices, ensuring that your school calendar data is synchronized and accessible from various platforms. 

Automatic Reminders

  • Many calendar subscriptions come with built-in reminder features, helping your parents stay organized and on top of your school schedule effortlessly. 

On the Calendar page, scroll down to the bottom right to find the link to subscribe to the school calendar on Mac, Android and desktop devices.  

Upcoming | Parent Conferences 

Parent conferences are scheduled for: 

  • Friday, March 15 (Jr High only): 1:20 – 3:30 pm (virtual meetings) 
  • Thursday, March 21: 4:20 – 8:00 pm (in person meetings) 
  • Friday, March 22: 9:00 – 12:00 (in person meetings) and 12:30 – 3:30 pm (virtual meetings) 

The booking manager will open on Monday, March 11 at 9:00 am. Parents/guardians can book appointments by logging into MyCBE. Instructions for booking a conference can be found here: How to Book a Conference 

Update | Intra-School Athletics

Volleyball 

It is play-off time for our volleyball teams, who are all playing in quarterfinals and semi-finals this week and next: 

  • Junior Girls finished first in regular season play. They have a bye in the first round and will be playing in the semi-finals on March 12 at Louis Riel School.  Game time 6:00 pm 
  • Junior Boys finished fourth in regular season play.  They played their first play-off game on Monday, which they won! They are moving on to the semi-finals on March 11 at John Ware School. Game time is 4:30 pm 
  • Senior Girls finished first in regular season play.  They also have a bye in the first round and will be playing in the semi-finals on March 12 at Home. Game time is 4:30 pm. 
  • Senior Boys finished third in regular season play. Their first play-off match is March 13 at Harold Panabaker School. Game time is 6:00 pm.  

Parent Input | Rideau Park School Planning Survey 

We need your input! Please complete this important engagement survey using this link. It should take about 5-7 minutes but will have a significant impact on our planning for next year. Survey will be open until March 14. 

Reminder | Term 2 Course Fees, Grades 7 – 9 

A reminder that fees were added to MyCBE for Grades 7 – 9 complementary courses at the start of the second term. Payment for term 2 course fees can be made by logging in to MyCBE. Questions about term 2 course fees or any fees added to your account? Contact Ms. Coles.

2024 – 25 | Western Canada HS: Grade 10 Course Selection Screens are Open 

Students plan course selections by completing the Grade 10 Registration Form and Checklist before entering courses. Students should choose three complementary courses plus at least two alternate courses. Full descriptions of the WCHS course complementary offerings are linked HERE.  

Once course selections are completed, students will need to use MyCBE to enter these selections by Friday (March 8). Students who would like some assistance with course selections and/or entering into MyCBE should contact Mr. Yackulic or Ms. Cochrane.  

WCHS requests that the paper copy of this form is signed and returned to Mr. Yackulic or Ms. Cochrane.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities | Fun Lunch, Field Trips, Year-End 

Grade 7 – Heritage Park, June 19

Students will be participating in Planes, Trains and Immigrants program at Heritage Park. Three (3) parent volunteers are needed for this off campus activity. Please contact Ms. Lewis if you can volunteer.

Campus Calgary Open Minds – Library School

There are 3 CCOM off campus trips upcoming where parent volunteers will be needed to assist with supervision. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are available to volunteer.  

  • Grade 1 / 2, Mar 6 – Mar 15  

Grades 7 & 9 | Outdoor Education – Calgary Climbing Centre, March 8 

Mr Osborne requires 1 parent volunteer to assist with supervision for the March 1 off-campus trip to the Calgary Climbing Centre.  No climbing experience is required. Please contact Mr. Osborne if you can volunteer. 

Fun Lunch

Almost all of the Fun Lunch volunteer spots until June have been filled. Only 2 remain. Volunteering starts at 11:05 am for approximately 45 minutes: 

  • April 18 – 1 volunteer needed 
  • June 13 – 1 volunteer needed

Important Reminder | Students Leaving During the School Day 

If a student needs to leave the building during the school day for an appointment or due to an illness, the student must be signed out from the office by a parent, or an adult (ie. over age 18) specified for ‘Student Pick up’ in MyCBE.  

This requirement applies to all students from Kindergarten to Grade 9.   

Parents can review who is listed for student pick up for their child by logging into MyCBE

Important Safety Reminder | Student Pick-up and Drop-off 

We ask your cooperation to keep student safety and respecting our neighbours in mind by following procedures with picking up and dropping off students for school.   

Parents are asked to make a loop when driving students to school at Rideau. Please drop off on 30 Ave SW heading eastbound. Please do not park in the bus zone or block the alley. Please do not drive into the cul de sac as this is a heavy pedestrian zone. Never be in a hurry when near Rideau Park School. It is not worth the consequence.  

There is no car-accessible front door drop-off, nor parking availability directly at our school entrance, nor from the t-intersection at the front of the school.  

Be aware that Rideau Road Back Alley access (off 30th Ave SW) and the main teacher parking lot are NOT permitted for student drop-offAlley access is for residents and Rideau staff ONLY (Continue Reading).
