Reminder to check google classroom to get our grade four updates :)

Ms. Williams

Happy Friday!

We made it through our first full week of school!  We decided as an elementary team that switching back to Google classroom as the place to update and share learning was the better and easier option.  Remember google classroom can be downloaded as an app to allow for quicker access.  Mr. Robertson will be sending out a message to families with reminders on how to log in and set this back up.  I have invited all students to the google classroom, so we are ready to go! I have attached this week’s message to both the blog and google classroom, however next week will just be Google Classroom.

 September 17th 2021

Welcome!  This week at school has been a great one! We began something new called our TGIF journals.  Every Friday (or Thursday) students will write to you about what they did in school that week, things they have learned or something they would like to share.  This journal will come home for the weekend, please take the time to read the journal and write a short note back, the students love that! They were very excited to hear that families would have “homework” over the weekend.

In science we continued with our exploration of Waste in our World and talked about what the term biodegradable means.  Students went outside in pairs looking for stages of decomposition in nature, they did a great job!  Next week we will be investigating the different elements that effect decomposition through a small experiment that includes lunch food (yuck!)
This week in Math we continued our exploration of patterns. Specifically, we looked at predicting an element of a visual or concrete pattern, and extending the pattern in a table to verify the prediction. Our practice work is posted in Google Classroom (but was completed on paper in class). We also learned three different math games; Trominos, Odds and Evens Tic Tac Toe and Martinetti. Ask your child which game is their favourite and get them to explain how to play.

On September 30th Canadians will be recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.  Next week we will begin looking at a short novel study, “Fatty Legs” written by Christy Jordan-Fenton & Margaret Pokiak-Fenton.  This is a memoir about a young Inuvaluit girls experience at a residential school.

Have a wonderful weekend and see everyone on Monday!
